Broadoak is situated outside and to the north of Canterbury above Sturry, and to the left of the A291 Herne Bay road.

The Village Shop

As you enter the village at the junction with the A291you pass the village shop on your left And the ??th century Tollgate Cottage to the right this is the beginning of Sweechgate.

The Oast House

On the left Just before the lefthand bend, stands the Oast House which was once a Public House known as The Spreading Oak, the licence was transfered to the Royal Oak further down the road. About 100 metres after the Oast House still on the left is Broadoak Farm.

The Royal Oak Stands on the right set well back with childrens play area, car park, and aviary in the front, Behind the pub is a caravan and camping area with normal facilities.

Goodwin Farmstead

Next door is an old farm yard redeveloped with 3 new dwellings allongside the existing cottages, now called Goodwin Farmstead.

VILLAGE HALL

 

The Village hall is at the centre of the village on the junction of Sweechgate, Mayton Lane and Shallock Road. To see more of the hall and view booking fees click the picture.

 

 

 

 

The Golden Lion is situated diagonally opposite on the junction at the start of Mayton Lane with gardens and play area to the rear.

The Thatch

 

After the village hall there are georgian style houses on the left, running up to Chapel Lane, with a thached cottage on the far corner. The Thatch is a 17th century thatched cottage, one of the oldest properties in the village and is home to a hand engraving business.

 

 

Just along the lane on the right is the Broadoak Chapel,

Mead Manor is the last property in the lane and certainly the oldest, being 14th century and mentioned in the Doomsday Book, although this is the end of the road it continues as a footpath.

Arton pond

 

Following the footpath towards Sweechgate you will pass Arton Pond on your left and the rear of Broadoak Farm to your right.

Goose Farm

 

Coming back out of Chapel Lane into Shallock Road you will find Goose farm almost opposite, where there is a thriving business comunity in ?? units with various trades, even a florist as you drive in.
